3 Tips for Creating a Tidy Kids Space
I recently spent some time with one of my client’s son, an energetic eight-year-old named Raymond. His room is full of adventure and creativity, and we've found a way to make it functional without sacrificing the fun factor.
Use the Vertical Space
First things first, we introduced a loft bed. There's a cozy space underneath for playing, reading, or simply hanging out. You know kids love creating their little hideaways, and this loft bed is a fantastic solution. The bed we used has steps on the side, with drawers under each step.
Storage is on His Level
The area is kept organized with shelves for books and bins for toys. Everything is easily accessible, low down on his level, so Raymond can find what he needs and equally importantly, put things back where they belong.
Legos
Raymond is a huge lego fan, and so am I! But as much as everyone likes legos, no one likes stepping on them. We've adopted a simple strategy for storing the lego sets. Each Lego set is kept in its own Ziploc bag, complete with instructions. This way, Raymond can quickly locate the set he wants to build.
(I have some other Lego storage solutions here.)
When playtime is over, cleaning up is a breeze. Each set is neatly stored in its Ziploc bag, making it easy to find and keeping all the pieces together. We've stashed them in a drawer, low down where Raymond can access them easily and put them away without hassle.
Keeping a kid's room organized doesn't mean sacrificing fun and individuality. With a little creativity and a few nifty storage solutions, you can create a space that's tidy and accessible while still providing the perfect backdrop for play and adventure.
I can't stress enough how important it is for kids to feel that there space is truly their own. I believe that having ownership and responsibility for one’s own space is so important - not just for kids but for all of us!
