3 Tips for Regularly Organizing & Storing Your Digital Photos
Do you struggle to keep your digital photos organized? Photos quickly can get lost and disorganized without a system in place. Especially if you love taking pictures, are a nature-lover, foodie, and/or a parent. Putting a system in place is crucial to finding your photos quickly and easily. We got a few tips to help!
Tip #1: Create & Implement a Specific Filing System
To keep your photos organized, it’s essential to create a specific filing system. It is best to start with naming folders by certain events or subjects and including the date/year. For example, you could create a folder for each year and then sub-folders for each event or trip, like 2023-06-14 _ Nantucket-Trip or Nantucket-Trip_2023. Also, arrange the folders in order. Most systems will automatically do this but if not, take the time to do it. This will make it much easier to find what you’re looking for.
Tip #2: Make a Habit of Uploading to Cloud Storage
Cloud storage might become your best friend! Uploading your photos to a cloud storage system is a great way to protect them from loss and ensure they’re easily accessible from any device. There is an array of different storage options, from iDrive to Google Photos to Dropbox or OneDrive. Check them out and see which one fits your needs, available space and price point. Uploading your photos is simple and can save you from losing them in the event of a computer or phone crash.
Tip #3: Keep a Backup on an Accessible External Drive
Along with your cloud storage, you want another backup on an external hard drive just to make sure your photos are safe. This will give you an additional layer of protection and ensure you always have access to your photos, even if you lose access to your cloud storage account. Store the hard drive in an accessible location for easy use or grab- if there is an emergency. When buying a hard drive, think about the amount of pictures you have and buy one with plenty of storage space.
Organizing your digital photos doesn’t have to be a huge undertaking. By implementing a specific filing system, uploading to cloud storage, and keeping a backup on an external hard drive, you can ensure your photos are safe and easily accessible. If you have a backlog of photos, start by working on a few pictures and folders at a time. Make sure when organizing that your system that you create is easy to maintain.
