Keeping Baby’s Essentials Handy and Clutter-Free

Having a new member of the family is an incredibly joyful experience, but it can also be quite hectic (that’s an understatement!) It’s especially important to keep your home organized when you have a newborn. Here are some practical tips to help you keep everything you need handy while maintaining a clutter-free environment.

Use Baskets for Essentials

One of the best ways to stay organized when caring for a baby is by using baskets (or bins) to keep your essentials close by. On the changing table, consider having a basket stocked with diapers, lotions, wipes, and everything you need for a quick diaper change. While most of your supplies may be stored in drawers, having extras within arm's reach can be a lifesaver during those messy moments.

Open Basket as a Laundry Hamper

Opt for an open basket as a laundry hamper rather than one with a lid. This choice makes it convenient to toss in dirty clothes or baby blankets when your hands are full. With a lidless hamper, you won't have to worry about fumbling with a lid while juggling your baby. Simplicity and ease of use are key when organizing for a newborn.

Use Bins Inside Drawers

Inside drawers, use bins to keep everything neatly organized. Bins are perfect for corralling small items like baby socks, onesies, or even tiny accessories. By using bins, you ensure that items remain accessible and easy to find. No more rummaging through drawers in search of that elusive baby hat.

Toy Basket for Easy Cleanup

Lastly, consider having a designated basket for a few baby toys on the floor. These toys should be easy to put away and grab, especially if you find yourself needing to entertain your baby with one hand. Having a dedicated space for toys ensures that they don't end up scattered all over the room, contributing to a clutter-free living area.

Create a Milestone Notebook

I just have to share this idea that I learned from a client. Keep a small notebook with a pen in one of the drawers. Whenever your baby reaches a milestone, such as their first smile or their response to your voice, jot it down in the notebook. It doesn't have to be a fancy scrapbook; a simple notebook will suffice. This way, you can capture those precious moments with ease, even with one hand occupied by your little one.

With a baby in the house there is a lot going on, staying organized needs to be as simple and easy as possible, so you can focus on what’s important! Remember, staying organized doesn't have to be complicated; sometimes, the simplest solutions are the most effective.
